Marathon Family Health Team

Marathon Family Health Team is a full service family medical clinic with nine Family Physicians, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, two Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurse, Social Worker, Registered Dietitian, Community Health Promotions Coordinator, Internet Technologist, two Health Care Assistants, epidemiologist, Executive Director, and nine support staff.

We are pleased to provide quality healthcare to the community of Marathon, Biigtigong First Nation and Pic Mobert First Nation. In 2009, the health team was awarded the OCFP Rural Family Health Team of the year. In 2012, Marathon Family Health Team's associate physician, Dr. Eli Orrantia, was awarded the Northern Ontario School of Medicine Preceptor of the year. In 2013, Marathon Family Health Team Associate Physician, Dr. Sarah Newbery, was one of ten physicians across the country named “Family Physician of the Year” by the College of Family Physicians of Canada.”

District Health Unit

A branch office of the Thunder Bay District Health Unit is also located in Marathon at 22 Peninsula Road, phone: 807-229-1820. In response to the health needs of the community, the Health Unit provides health information and prevention-related clinical services to people of all ages, advocates for healthy public policy, protects citizens by investigating reportable diseases (e.g., H1N1 flu virus), and upholds regulations that apply to public health.
